Super Spice: Nutmeg

As someone who suffered from bad skin as a teen and in my early 20's, I am all about natural skin remedies and ensuring I stay radiant and clear.  Over the weekend I listened to a podcast about how to get glowing skin through diet choices.  In the podcast, a guest speaker listed Nutmeg as a "must eat" for glowing skin.  I immediately hopped online (hello pintrest) to find out just how good Nutmeg really is for you.  It blew my mind!  Check out the following stat sheet.

The last few days I have been including this magical little spice in as much as possible.  One thing that was mentioned on the podcast is to not overdo the amount you ingest at one time.  Anything more than a 1/4 teaspoon may cause nausea.  Today's smoothie was built around Nutmeg and my other favorite spice, Cinnamon.  Cinnamon is a natural blood sugar stabilizer.  Whenever I make a smoothie or anything that could spike my blood sugar levels I make sure to add a generous dash of cinnamon (wether the recipe calls for it or not, i.e. muffins, pancakes, dessert, anything carb heavy, etc...)

Today's smoothie, 1 banana, 1 generous tablespoon almond butter, 1/4 cup frozen pineapple, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 2 teaspoons coco powder, a smidge of honey.  YUM!!

Add some nutmeg and cinnamon to your next treat and let me know what you think.

BE WELL,

JENI
